NEHAWU hosting a celebration of the international nurses day at Thelle Mogoerane Regional hospital on Friday the 10th two days before the official INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY(12 May)

The celebration was a joyful one as the event was lead by songs to show their joy at what the union have achieved for the nurses so far. Highlighting milestones they have been able to over come throughout the years. Program director, national treasurer comrade kgomotso Makhupola lead the event with a prayer and candlelit pledge ceremony took place shortly after. The CEO of Thelle Mogoerane welcomed all guest speakers and nurses at attendance.

Retired nurse Martha legotlo stood at the podium to encourage nurses to never give up fighting the good fight although under appreciated and underpaid.  " if ever you feel emotionally tired, feel free to ask for help and let your  leaders know, we are human after all" nurse Martha advised the nurses to take care of their emotional state in order to be a great service to the patients. The hard work and dedication of these health care workers was celebrated immensely.

President of NEHAWU Mike Shingange had quit a handful to say about the government's treatment towards nurses. Shingange highlighted the fact that nurses are the most important factor in the country’s wellbeing " nurses are there when the first breath is taken and they are there when the last breath is taken" Shingange emphasized the importance of nurses on a daily basis. Shingange also touched on the matter of salary increase that the union was fighting for the previous year " although we are not satisfied with the conclusions of that case, it is a step to the right direction " Shingange spoke on the final verdict of the salary increase matter. Nurses are still not pleased with the danger allowance of COVID-19 as they were only given 5 days off of work as a settlement. Enrolled nurse Bongisile Dlamini had a lot to say on the matter " not only risking our lives but our families too, working while everyone is on lockdown and the thanks we get is 5 days off of work" Dlamini exclaimed unhappily. NEHAWU promised to fight the matter of danger allowance until they see fruitful results.

Although a handful complaints came forward,  the celebration continued and was a success.
